Potatoes

Last weekend we got two of our three potato varieties planted: Russian Banana (a fingerling variety) and Russian Blue. Very exciting! Here's what they might look like come harvest time:

Laire and I had the help of a friend, Jessie, and together we managed to double-dig all the beds while we planted. Many hands make light work, right? Well, our backs were still pretty sore when it was all over. But I was impressed that we got it all done in an afternoon. Here's the end result:

On the left there's still a bed of overwintered parsley, which we'll let grow a little this spring to see if we can't get another harvest or two from it before turning into the soil. At that time we'll plant a couple beds of Yukon Gold potatoes for root-cellaring.
